Inspiring and Making others laugh at Hochanda

At an early age I realised I wanted to work in media. I remember it very well because I was only 11 years old at the time and in a French lesson at school. I decided to entertain my friends with ‘Janice Radio’.

This stayed with me and when I left school at 16 years old I started working for my local radio station.

Months turned into years and after 5 fabulous years I decided to travel the world and see what adventures awaited me.

Eventually I returned home and started volunteering for a local community channel and found myself on a board for a company providing education and practical experience for budding film makers. I helped introduce the International Film Festival in Leicester that bought film makers together from around the world.

It was here I met someone who worked within the shopping television industry. So off I went to an audition and got the job. I stayed for nearly ten years educating viewers in the world of technology.

It came to a stage when I wanted a change and approached Hochanda .

Luckily I passed the audition and was offered the job!

Now three years later I find myself surrounded by so many creative people who are both talented and caring. It’s the beat place to work and I can’t wait to get to the studios every day - even with a 4am alarm calls! I love the interaction with our guests and lovely customers who have inspired me to take up crafting which I’m really enjoying!

Q&A SESSION WITH Janice

When did you first discover your love for arts and craft?

I loved drawing sketches for my friends and always loved to take photos so I knew I had a creative side

Have any of your family and friends been inspired to take up any arts and crafts based on your career?

I have a few friends who are now crafting more than they did. I like to think it’s something to do with constant talking about Hochanda!

When you’re crafting do you have a favourite snack?

I’m always too engrossed and then I wonder why I am so hungry afterwards!

What’s your favourite hot beverage (eg type coffee, tea, hot chocolate)?

An Americano coffee

While you’re crafting do you like to have music on, if so what type and do you find it helps your creativity?

I love music and I go from one favourite album to another. I have an eclectic taste when it comes to music. Anything from Barbara Streisand to Pearl Jam so it’s whatever mood I’m in.

Do you have favourite place to craft in the home (eg, a dedicated craft room, in the kitchen, living room etc)

At the moment I craft in our kitchen dinner or if it’s nice weather outside!

What’s your top crafting tip?

Just start the project and see where it takes you. And if you need to, walk away and come back with fresh eyes.

What is your funniest on-screen moment?

Oh there are many! Mainly due to our wonderful guests. I do have a tendency to get my words mixed up which can be quite funny as I don’t realised until someone points it out to me. If I had to say one I think it was when I got Kathryn mixed up with Jon Bon JOVI!

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself?

I only have 9 toes
