The hessian included in our kit is not a little mat. It is a proper rug size that would look great by the side of the bed or in a bathroom.

What is rag rugging?

Rag rugging is an old British craft where people use hessian sacking and old clothing and fabric to make cosy rugs for the floor. It was incredibly widespread during Victorian times when lower income families embraced rag rugging as a way to make the most out of everything they had. They took the clothing that was no longer fit for purpose and worked their magic to make wonderful rugs for the cold, stone floors.

Please note, this kit does not include all the fabric needed to complete the rug but does include advice on what other fabrics are suitable.

Rag rugs can be washed in the washing machine on a cold wash.

Please note, the amount of hessian covered with rag rugging depends on the technique used, so one ball of blanket yarn will go further when doing the loopy rag rug technique than the shaggy technique.
